Linking Twitch, Kick and YouTube
How a member connects a streaming account to their Discord profile, and what that unlocks.
Ultimate and up
One profile, several platforms
A member has one profile in Unum, keyed to their Discord account. Linking a Twitch, Kick or YouTube account tells Unum that the person in that stream chat is the same person as the one in Discord.
Once that is known, XP and credits earned on any linked platform count toward the same per-server balance, and a subscription on a linked platform can be mirrored into a Discord role.
How a member links an account
Linking happens on the dashboard, not through a command, because it goes through the platform's own sign-in.
- Sign in to the dashboard with Discord. The home page has a Connected Accounts section listing Twitch, YouTube and Kick.
- Press Connect next to a platform. You are sent to that platform to sign in and approve.
- Approve, and you land back on the dashboard with the account shown by its username.
The permission asked for is identity only, enough to confirm which account signed in. Nothing is posted or changed on the platform.
Your Discord account is the profile itself, so it is always shown as primary and cannot be disconnected.
Unlinking
The same row has a Disconnect button, which asks you to confirm before it acts.
Disconnecting is final for that account. The row afterwards reads that it was previously connected and that a new account is needed. The same platform account cannot be linked again, on any Discord account.
Disconnecting also withdraws the claim behind any subscriber role you hold from that platform. The role is not pulled immediately: it starts the server's grace period and is removed when that expires.
Streamers: /link is a different thing
The link above says which platform accounts are yours. If you are a streamer and you want this server to react when you go live, you also tell it which channel to watch for, per server, with a command.
- /link
- Takes a platform (Twitch, YouTube or Kick) and your channel name or ID. It replies privately to confirm the channel is linked to this server.
- /unlink
- Takes a platform and removes that link for this server. If there was nothing to remove, it says so rather than pretending.
Both are per server, so linking in one server does not link you in another. A channel can only be claimed by one member in a server: if someone else has already claimed it, the command refuses.
Checking your status with /mysubs
Subscriber roles are handled quietly, so a member has no other way to see why a role did or did not arrive. Run /mysubs in the server and the reply is private to you.
- If the server has not set subscriber roles up, it says so and stops there.
- If you have no linked accounts, it says so and points you at the dashboard.
- Otherwise it lists each linked account by platform and username, and what it currently earns you in that server.
Per account, that is either the role you hold, the role you hold with a note that it is due to expire unless your subscription is renewed, or that the account is linked but no active subscription was found.
What linking enables
- XP and credits from stream chat
- Chat on a linked platform earns into the same per-server balance as Discord activity. Anything you earned in stream chat before linking is moved across to your profile at the moment you link, server by server. This happens the first time you link a platform; an account linked after unlinking another one starts fresh.
- Live roles
- A role while you are streaming. It needs both the dashboard link and /link of that same channel, plus the server's streamer role.
- Subscriber roles
- A role for subscribing to a channel the server has connected. This one reads the dashboard link. A subscription on an unlinked account cannot be matched to anyone in Discord.
What an admin has to do
Nothing, for linking itself. A member can link an account whether or not the server has configured anything. But a link only pays off once the feature that reads it is set up, and that part is yours:
- For live roles
- Switch Live Role on and pick two roles: a streamer role that decides who is eligible, and the role handed out while they are live.
- For subscriber roles
- Switch Subscriber Roles on, pick a role for each platform you want mirrored, and connect the channel whose subscriptions count. The page tells you which platforms are not connected yet.
- For either
- Put Unum's role above every role it hands out. Without that, Discord refuses the change and the member sees nothing happen.
Beyond that, tell your members that linking is a thing. It is the step most servers forget, and most subscribers never link an account unless they are asked to.
